PrefaceMy name is Chao Wang, from the middle part of China, Henan Province. I found my passion for education when I have my son because I have see the power of education on kids, families, and even a country.
I synthesize what I learned in NLGL program to solve the problem of how can we improve impoverished children's learning. The whole process is the application PBI (ECI 620/ ECI 509 Special Problems). From ECI 524 Theory and Research Global, I learned that our scope should not be restricted in our own family, school, and community. Instead, we should develop ourselves as cosmopolitans and nurture our kids to have international views. I combined what I learned from ECI 550 Foundations of Middle Year Education and EDP 504 Advanced Educational Psychology to address how kids in poverty are different from middle- and upper-class kids, physically and psychologically. Also, in the action part, I utilized leadership skills (ECI 508 Teachers as Leaders) to advocate that parents and parents should collaborate to help kids. In schools, it is important to become transformative teachers (ECI 512 Emerging Technology; ECI 645 New Literacy Media) because we probably are only people who can show kids in poverty what does the big world look like, which is a crucial way to bridge them out of poverty. I also mentioned my philosophy of teaching writing (ECI 520 Teaching Composition) and the action research (ECI 523 Teachers as Researchers) can help them find ways of improving impoverished students' learning. |
